Trump Calls Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Steps and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed a news show that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
