Triple award winner Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee while the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half following an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player came down on the foot of Jokic, who immediately went down to the ground clutching his knee.
The veteran player, that is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and assists, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the issue.
"Immediately, Jokic realized something was wrong," stated Denver coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as talented as him. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Of course, currently, I'm more concerned about Jokic as a person and the letdown of facing an event like that."
