Fans Demand Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who breached a fence and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records revealed that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account features recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of fans had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a dual version of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, securing two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
