Arsenal Take On Wolves in Crucial English Top Division Clash

The stage is set for a compelling Premier League contest as table-toppers the Gunners host bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Emirates Stadium.

Confirmed Sides

Mikel Arteta's side have made a trio of alterations from the XI that endured a narrow loss at Aston Villa in their previous outing. William Saliba, Viktor Gyökeres and the Brazilian winger all come into the lineup. Martin Ødegaard and Mikel Merino drop to the substitutes' bench, while Riccardo Calafiori is not involved. The centre-back is back after sitting out a run of games through injury.

Wolves also have made three adjustments to their starting XI following being soundly beaten 4-1 at Molineux by Manchester United last time out. The experienced full-back, João Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan start. Ki-Jana Hoever and Jhon Arias are on the bench, while Bellegarde misses out altogether.

The Setup

Welcome! And I mean, c’mon …

The table tells a stark picture. Arsenal sit proudly at the top of the Premier League, while their opponents occupy the bottom of the league.

… however, even though this will be the 42nd time the top side have faced the side at the foot of the division – with 30 victories from 41, with seven tied games – which team is responsible for two of the four all-time upsets? Why, Wolves, of course! Therefore, although the Arsenal manager will surely be expecting another victory, the Wolves boss must know that underdogs sometimes find the target, and anything is possible. Kick-off is at 8pm GMT. The action is imminent!

(The remaining last-over-first victories in the modern top-flight era are Oldham’s 1-0 win over Manchester United in March 1993, and Tottenham Hotspur – yeah, a surprising one - beating Liverpool in November 2008.)
