Among Avatar: The Last Airbender's top installments is honored with its own MTG collector's set.
Usually, clip shows face criticism from viewers as a needless diversion, or perhaps tolerated as essential in television in the age of regular broadcasts. However, this wasn't the situation, but Avatar: The Last Airbender demonstrated this through "The Ember Island Players," a cherished episode from its final season that is now granted a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair collection.
Details about the Secret Lair
The complete Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was revealed earlier this month. Containing five Secret Lairs, and while a set named "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly amusing nod to the series' best background character, the remaining sets seem somewhat lacking creativity, with one notable exception: "The Ember Island Players."
Inspired by the seventeenth episode of the third season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this collector's drop features the following cards:
- 1x Phantasmal Image portrayed as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
- 1x Braid of Fire
- 1x Cursed Mirror
- 1x Mask of Memory
- 1x Thespian's Stage
What makes this installment is special
Audiences of Avatar fondly remember this installment, which functioned as a summary of Aang and his companions' quest prior to the final episode. In contrast to standard summary installments, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" wasn't motivated by budget restrictions or creative challenges. The creators specifically aimed to offer viewers an opportunity to revisit the series' story, but they decided to execute it with flair.
During the installment, the main characters observe a stage show depicting their journeys on a stage set on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is inaccurate, melodramatic, and utterly comical. It excels because it plays with the heroes' understanding of themselves, contrasting them against how the world (and notably the Fire Nation citizens) views them. It possesses an ideal level of self-awareness, and it becomes perhaps the top rendition of Avatar released so far.

When it comes to cost-effectiveness, this represents an excellent Secret Lair due to one key factor: Braid of Fire. This card is valued between $20 and $40 on various platforms at the time of writing, while for $29.99 you can snag the full set, or $39.99 for the shiny edition.
Magic's Avatar: The Last Airbender collection is available for pre-release events beginning November 14 and launches globally come November 21.
